Environmental
Thanks for stopping by the environmental health page at swhealthdept.com.
I hope you find helpful information here. We are always looking at ways to improve
the quality of life in our area from an environmental standpoint. Whether it’s
by providing Radon Measurement in your home or educating on the importance of
recycling. We can all work together to make Southwest Nebraska an even better
place to live and work and raise our families.
You may be wondering what Radon is and why should you be concerned about it.
The average person receives more radiation from Radon Gas than all other natural
and man made sources of radiation. Radon is found in all areas of Nebraska and
recent tests have indicated Southwest Nebraska has levels above which the EPA
indicates should be mitigated. Radon is naturally occurring and can only be detected
by testing your home. Radon can enter our homes naturally through the soil around
our homes. Radon Gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer; tobacco being
first.
