Public Health - Prevent. Promote. Protect.

Being a Respite provider is a great community service you can provide to Nebraskans of all ages, who may have medical difficulties, experience disabilities, mental illness, behavioral issues, or the frail elderly. You’ll be helping caregivers continue to care for their loved ones. You’ll enable families to keep their loved one with disabilities in the home environment rather than in an institution.

Do you want to be an Approved Respite Service Provider?

As an Independent Approved Respite Services Provider you will choose what populations (disabilities or medical conditions) of clients you wish to serve, set your own hours, and pay schedule or you may volunteer your services.

Service providers help…

  • Individuals to live independently in a home or community setting
  • Spouses to care for their loved ones at home
  • Families to raise their children with disabilities at home

Programs pay a variety of both individuals and agencies to provide services.  At the same time, service providers earn a reasonable rate for their services.

Individual Approved Respite Service Providers are not employees of Nebraska Respite Network or the State of Nebraska. Rather, they are independent contractors who work for the individual with disabilities.

To be approved, individual providers must meet standards and pass background checks, including:

  • Criminal history
  • Adult Protective Services registry
  • Child central registry
  • Sex offender registry
